  • 11 Apr 2013 — The Holywell Bronze Age Hoard

West Watford History Group will be hosting a talk by Laurie Elvin this evening, 11 April 2013. It is due to start at 7:30pm and will be at their usual meeting venue of West Watford Community Centre, 15 Harwoods Road, Watford, WD18 7RB. Attendees will be asked to contribute £2.50 towards the cost of room hire, and drinks will be available from 50p.

Laurie's talk will describe the late Bronze Age hoard of metalwork was found on the Holywell Industrial Estate in 1960. The talk will cover some background to the Bronze Age in prehistory and current opinions about why such hoards were buried.

Despite the short notice, it is hoped that people will find this a topic of interest and attend to support another local history group.

  • 9 Apr 2013 — The Co-Op in North Watford

Our next meeting, on 13 April, will be themed upon the co-operative movement and its place in North Watford.

The Co-Operative is known by many and still has a presence in the town. We would like to draw upon that knowledge to document some of the history of this body. Our next meeting is intended to be one where we encourage people to attend and share their knowledge and experiences of the society. Please come along and share the information and memories you have and help us put together a comprehensive picture of the society and its part in the community.
