Callowland Recreation Ground
By train to Watford Junction:
Watford Junction station is served by London Midland and Virgin trains on the West Coast mainline, from London Euston, the London Overground suburban service, and the Abbey Flyer branch line from St Albans Abbey station.
On leaving the station, turn right, towards the Flag public house, and cross the service road leading to the station car park. Turn right along this road, towards the car park. Before reaching the bridge, there is a ramp that leads up and to left, to a footpath that runs parallel to the rail lines. Follow this footpath to St Albans Road, using the subway to cross the road. When emerging from the subway by the steps, turn left and follow St Albans road bridge over the railway lines. Continue past Champions and Dunnings Bar (public houses) until you reach the junction with Leavesden Road. Follow Leavesden Road until it joins Gammons Lane. Continue in the same direction, following Gammons Lane to the junction with Ashby Road, where an entrance to the recreation ground is located.
Alternatively, exit the rail station and turn left to take the number 10 bus from stop 3 of the bus station.
Route 10 calls at the bus stops on Gammons Lane near Callowland Recreation Ground.
Other routes serve St Albans Road, and stop near the junction of Leavesden Road. It is a moderate walk from St Albans Road to Callowland Recreation Ground.
North Watford History Group is pleased to be invited to participate in this year's Callowland Fun Day.
Remember that we also meet regularly at Leavesden Baptist Church, so do come along to one of our meetings.
